Environmental Social Governance
Sustainability is a key priority for us
Sustainability is a commitment that drives every aspect of our work. At The Great Yorkshire Events Centre we are reducing our environmental impact whilst working towards a long term environmental social governance (ESG) strategy with our charity, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
Located on the iconic 250-acre Great Yorkshire Showground, working with the Society and partner organisations has provided us with ground-breaking data and insights into biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and environmental initiatives. This wealth of knowledge informs our green working practices and provides the foundation for our long-term innovative and measurable efforts as a sustainable event venue.

Our commitments to sustainability:
- Award-Winning Venue
The Great Yorkshire Events Centre has received Gold Green Eco Smart Award for Sustainability for both The Halls and The Pavilions recognising our dedication to eco-friendly practices. - BREEAM Rating – Good
The Great Yorkshire Events Centre meets the approved environmental standards for energy and resource efficiency. - Energy Reporting
The Great Yorkshire Events Centre uses a detailed building management system that can provide our clients with a report on their event’s energy usage. - Solar Power
There are 960 solar panels on the roof of The Halls which generates renewable energy, therefore reducing our grid dependency. - Zero Waste
All on-site waste is recycled or converted back into energy - Locally sourced food and drink
Both of our on-site catering providers use Yorkshire food and drink where possible, minimising food miles and supporting local farmers and suppliers. - Sustainable Catering
Our on-site catering services use reusable crockery and cutlery. When single use items are required, recycled food packaging, wooden cutlery, and paper straws are provided. The Pavilions filter and bottle their own water that is then used at events. - Local greenway and cycle route
The Great Yorkshire Events Centre can be accessed via the Showground Greenway allowing visitors the opportunity to walk or cycle to our venues. - EV Charging
Multiple electrical vehicle charging stations located across the site.

A Long-Term Vision for ESG
All profits raised from events at the Great Yorkshire Events Centre fund the work of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The Society is conducting a comprehensive mapping exercise to measure and enhance the biodiversity and carbon capture capacity of our shared site. This initiative forms part of a broader, long-term vision to protect and sustain the environment for future generations.
Our Shared Commitment
Recently, the Great Yorkshire Events Centre was the chosen venue for a non-departmental public body specialising in environmental initiatives. Their all-team meeting brought 2,000 delegates together and they chose our venue because of our shared commitment to being sustainable.
