Here at The Great Yorkshire Events Centre, we know how important sustainability is to the businesses that choose to exhibit and run their events on our grounds and, as such, our commitment to sustainable working practices drives every aspect of our work – including our catering.
Our award-winning caterers, Kings Catering, which provides more intimate catering at the Pavilions of Harrogate and CGC Event Caterers, which caters for large-scale events at The Halls, are both renowned for their impeccable food, craftsmanship and commitment to sustainability. What that means is we have a zero-landfill policy and, wherever possible, use the best locally grown and sourced produce, both supporting local suppliers, and reducing food miles.
What’s more, the Pavilions of Harrogate even filters and bottles its own water to be used at events.
But how do we ensure we’re meeting our zero-landfill policy, particularly when we’re welcoming and feeding up to 450 people a day at the Pavilions of Harrogate and large-scale events over 450 at The Halls?
This is achieved through close working partnerships with both ReFood, our new food waste partner, and our long-standing working relationship with HACS. Through ReFood we’ll be able to ensure complete traceability in diverting food waste from landfill and instead using it to generate renewable energy. Our partnership with HACS, who we have worked with for many years, ensures the responsible sorting of all other waste disposal.
Working practices and partnerships such as these help ensure both we and the businesses we work with reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the myriad of events we host across our 250-acre site.
This commitment to sustainability across our food chain combined with our wider green working practices, has ensured we’re the proud holders of the prestigious Gold Green Eco Smart Award for Sustainability for both The Halls and the Pavilions of Harrogate, recognising our dedication to eco-friendly practices.
What’s more, all profits from events booked at The Great Yorkshire Events Centre fund the charitable work of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
